California attorney with extensive technology and non-profit leadership experience, endeavoring to apply legal training and technical expertise to public service law.
I am a California attorney who is passionate about democracy, social justice, and the rule of law. My law degree (Santa Clara University) and undergraduate degree in public policy (Indiana University) provide me with a unique perspective on the impact of legal and social norms on public life. While it may seem quaint in these trying times, I maintain that democracy, law, and rational policymaking are among our most potent tools for improving people’s lives; and I am dedicated to protecting, developing, and wielding these tools ethically and responsibly, in service of the public good.
While I have broad interests and expertise, I am most drawn to the following categories of legal practice:
In addition to my legal and policy background, I have extensive experience in technology and non-profit leadership. I have worked for start-ups in the energy efficiency and climate resilience sectors, and for non-profits advocating for the unhoused and promoting free and open access to academic research.
I co-founded a California consumer coöperative called IO Coöperative in 2012 to provide technology solutions to non-profits and hobbyists, leading its incorporation process. I also led (with outside counsel) its successful defense of a baseless DMCA (copyright) suit. I remain a member and emeritus director of the coöperative today.
No matter the role, my career has been defined by working with ambitious people dedicated to impactful work in mission driven organizations. For more information about my experience or to suggest a collaboration, please refer to my qualifications or contact me.
